What is fiber art?

Fiber art, or textile art, includes surface design techniques like Shibori and Batik. It merges traditional craft with modern design, resulting in unique, expressive pieces for fashion, home decor, and fine art.

Shibori and batik are traditional fiber arts known for their beautiful, intricate patterns. Shibori, a Japanese technique like tie-dye, involves folding, twisting, and binding fabric before dyeing to create unique designs. It’s easy and fun to learn, making it perfect for beginners. Batik, from Indonesia, uses wax to create patterns on fabric before dyeing. The wax resists the dye, forming detailed designs. Batik requires a bit more precision and practice, but is still accessible to newcomers.
